85% of juveniles in the United States who face court hearings are functionally illiterate. Ticonderoga will partner with juvenile correction centers across the country to bring light to this problem through spelling bees where youth in the juvenile justice system will have a chance to earn scholarships towards higher education opportunities.
Ticonderoga will sponsor and install "mini-libraries" in neighborhoods around the country to encourage reading across all age groups. One in six libraries will be empty, representing and bringing attention to the issue that one in six adults in the United States lack some functional literacy skills.
